i'm jenna lee in newtown, on the ground to get pa better idea what transpired yesterday morning. after only a few hours, i can tell you about newtown, it becomes clear right away. this is a particularly close night community deeply in grief. where i am right now is about a mile or so from the elementary school. if you like behind me you're going to see the baseball field here, i'm in what is now being used as the media staging area, but it's a community field of sorts for elementary and high school students as well as the general community overall, soccer field and tennis courts, all now filled with media personnel coming in. and oon driving in this morning, a sleepy town in connecticut, a brisk cool, like we saw yesterday. there's really no one on the streets, one lone jogger and the rest, again, journalists trying to gather information for everyone in this country that has so many questions about what transpired yesterday. now, we've heard there's going to be a press conference shortly and waiting on that for about two hours and i can see the microphones, about 50 feet away fr

hall in newtown connecticut. it's become for all the wrong reasons, main street usa. that may change. plenty of news on that subject tonight with president obama laying out a plan of action today and the nra planning to speak on that later this week. for now, though, fell of this town are focusing on the moment. they're not even focusing on the day but minute by minute. they are tending to the sadly duty they have to bury the dead and to remember and to honor. daniel barden was always smiling and had two front teeth missing. which his parents say he earned in his fearless pursuit of fun and happiness. his dad was a musician and he followed his lead by playing the drums. his family described him as a thoughtful and affectionate boy. whenever he noticed kids sitting alone in the runch room at school, he would join them. in an interview, his dad remembers teaching him to play "jingle bells" on the way to school. >> we held hands on the way to the bus. and that was our last morning together. he did get up early that morning and ran down the driveway so he could kiss his brother good-bye

now. >>> good evening. breaking news. i'm ashleigh banfield in for erin burnett tonight. in newtown, connecticut, it is the scene of one of the worst school shootings in the history of the united states and we can report for you that police have now identified a school shooter as adam lanza. a shooter who killed 26 people today at the sandy hook elementary school here in this small connecticut town. 20 children were killed. 18 of them were pronounced dead right at the scene of the school. two of them were rushed to the hospital, hoping that they could save them. those children died at the hospital. six adults at the school were also shot dead. and they died at the scene as well. nancy lanza, a teacher at the school and a mother of the suspected shooter, was also killed. but she was found dead in her son's home in newtown. adam lanza, the 24-year-old brother ryan lanza, was taken into police custody. ryan lanza taken into police custody for questioning in hoboken, new jersey, earlier today. officials had not labeled him a suspect. but he was taken away in handcuffs. his brother adam
